General Bronze was selected with Gensler Associates to design/build a replacement window system to transform the historic Brewster Manufacturing Facility (manufacturer of the WW II-era cargo plane “the Brewster Buffalo”) into a modern, energy-efficient data center and offices for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

Working with Moduline Window Systems, Wausau, Wisconsin, General Bronze removed the existing single-glazed factory windows and in their place, installed a new energy-efficient thermally-broken window system.  Within the large (16 feet wide x 12 feet tall) masonry openings a series of fixed and operable windows were installed using unique mullion profiles to achieve a hierarchy of major and minor vertical and horizontal sightlines.

A custom color green kynar® paint finish was developed to match the existing decorative cast iron spandrel panels.  The new windows were field glazed using energy-efficient, high-performance Low-E glass.  The new design increased the amount of daylight while improving the building envelope’s energy efficiency.

General Bronze’s scope included the design and installation of custom entrances, storefronts and mechanical louvers.

This was the third window replacement that General Bronze performed for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
